Stéphane Thidet
Rubis Mécénat gave a blank slate to the French artist Stéphane Thidet in 2016 to conceive an art work for the old sacristy at the Collège des Bernardins upon the initiative of the curator Gaël Charbau.
The installation Solitaire, realized in situ, uses an impressive amount of water to create a contemplative architectural landscape that inspire a reflective state of mind. The art work is a part of the artist’s mediations about time and his explorations of the “aura” of materials.
Stéphane Thidet, born in 1974, is a graduate of the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris and the École des Beaux-Arts in Rouen. He lives in Paris and works in Aubervilliers. He uses different mediums (sculptures, installations, videos) to communicate ideas about the transience of elements. In his art, objects are a source of both resistance and reconstruction. His works feature in many public and private collections. Stéphane Thidet has been represented for the past ten years by the Aline Vidal gallery in Paris, and the Laurence Bernard gallery in Geneva. In 2017, he receives the Anna Morettini Prize for the installation Solitaire, originally commissioned by Rubis Mécénat for the sacristy of the Collège des Bernardins in Paris.
